Muddy Waters' home in chicago is completely different from his home in Mississippi. However, that doesn't change the fact that he was cheated to a certain extent. He did not receive all his earnings from his hit records but none the less he had the key essentials needed to survive. In addition, waters' knew he was being cheated but he was treated like family at Chess Records and had he left, he probably would have received more of his earnings but would have been treated like crap (inferior to those in charge). -Andrea Jackson (MWF 10a.m.)
Andrea, do you think Muddy bears any responsibility for being cheated by Chess? Also while I agree he was cheated to an extent, he must have also made some good money to move from that shack in Mississippi to purchase that home in Chicago that cost a lot in the 1940's.

Muddy Waters' home in Chicago, as shown in the above pictures, appears to be much more pleasant than his home in Mississippi. And yes, Waters was cheated and not given all of his earnings, but at the same time he apparently had enough earnings to partake in such a large upgrade of housing. Also I feel that some of the responsibility of Waters being cheated falls on him. I understand that he was with Leonard but at the same time I feel he should have taken a chance and stepped out to find someone who would not cheat him. I know it would have taken time but life is a gamble!!
Muddy Waters' home is completely different from is home in Chicago. I take like to the one in Chicago better. It's kind of abnorm for Waters' to remain at Chess knowing that he was being cheated from his half off his hit records.
I personally think that Waters stayed with Chess b/c that was like family to him. At that point in his life, I think if he would have gone to a different record company, even though he may have made more money he wouldn't be happy. I don't think we would've had the same great Muddy Waters music that we have today if he wouldn't have stayed with Chess. There was a certain amount of protection and security with Chess Records that he couldn't have found elsewhere I don't think. Yes he was cheated out of money but he was blessed with friends and "family" that were irreplaceable.
I dont appreciate the way that chess was holding out on Muddy. With all the money Muddy was bringing in he should have been living a little better than that, Chess said that Muddy was like family.. thats hard to believe when his superstar artist is staying in a dump like that! Sterling-
